Hoofing it almost 30 miles through the hills of south eastern Ohio chasing gobbles for 6 days, I earned this one.
He sounded like multiple birds every morning with the amount he gobbled and he liked to play hard to get. I finally cooked up a game plan that had him fly over to my ridge looking for that sweet talking hen he was hearing. Turkeys definitely earned my respect this week. Competition was tough and the birds are smart on public land, persistence pays off.
Enjoyed an awesome morning hunt with @jophes16 ! Hate we couldn’t put that big Tom on the ground, but being 3 yards from a hen really helped the mood!!

The past week has been frustrating but today it finally paid off.
I called this gobbler in with a pot call I made out of a box turtle shell I found and a piece of roofing slate. He was pretty pissed that my jake decoy was in his territory. I was lucky enough to catch one of his last hand painted wormy chestnut Super Yelpers before they sold out. I also was able to get one of his discontinued Pro-Automatic calls. Richard is a NWTF Grand National Champion in turkey call making and his calls are just as functional as they are beautiful.
