A lot of attention is put into the mechanical elements, with use of high quality NYE damping greases, PTFE teflon and stainless steel bearing surfaces, and stainless steel ball and spring plungers. They allow for quick and easy bass tuning without having to disassemble the headphone. The smaller the port openings are, the more bass the headphone produces, and the effect is entirely linear. This makes it easy to adjust the bass to personal tastes, slightly above or under the neutral point. The rubber plugs click into place securely and are easy to remove.

Yamaha HP-1. Made in Japan 1976. This baby is a testament to the true HiFi-sound from the 70's.

Isodynamic (in modern terms planar magnetic) musicality. For these, the famous Italian designer Mario Bellini designed the first suspension strap ever made in the world. Yamaha HP-1 is one of my favourite headphones, and these still sound better than many of their modern counterparts do.

I don't like it. It has too much treble and it lacks bass. Sounds anemic for my taste. Dongle also warms quite much when used. Going to stick with DAP's.
