It was a magical experience, documenting a moment in my life where I felt I could not be authentically me, and demanding the space to do so. I’m sure it’s hard for people nowadays to comprehend that me having one line in the final song saying “but HE’S not coming back” was such a huge deal. But it was. And it was a scary moment for me. But making this entire album was part of me claiming myself. What a journey this has been.

Special thanks to @lkmusician for doing such an amazing job producing this project. I literally walked in and said “I want to sound good but I don’t want to sound glossy.” And he said, “I gotcha!” Kendall and I spent hours taking about Imogen Heap and Ani DiFranco. I loved every single one of those sessions.

thank you for all the love and support on it ❤️❤️ That being said, I do have a little note for this music video~ At the beginning of this year, I asked you guys to send in videos of you telling me one thing that you did last year, or are planning to do next year where you prioritised (or will prioritise) yourself over others. The word selfish gets a bad rep, and -to be honest- sometimes it can be a bad thing, especially when you are constantly not thinking of others or being inconsiderate to the extent that it becomes unhealthy. However, maybe- just MAYBE- a lot of us would be a lot happier if we hadn’t internalised within ourselves that we must light ourselves on fire to keep others warm. So when will we talk more about the other end of the spectrum- where you’re constantly putting your needs and values to the side to incorporate others’? So here’s my proposal: this year, let’s all take a step towards prioritising ourselves. God knows we need it after the year that has passed. If you guys want to share your experiences you can feel free to do it in the comment section if you feel comfortable or you can reflect on it all on your own. Hey friends!😄 here’s a birthday track for you guys (it was my birthday yesterday..)
This one comes from the heart. It’s about how I feel like a selfish son- with everything I’ve put my family through and at this moment I’m broke and have no possible way to repay them. Even though I had plans to be far better off than I am by now. It’s hard to explain fully but I feel like all of us girls and guys have felt like this with our families at least at some points- so I hope it’s relatable. The moral is, you can’t give up on proving those things. For them and yourself. You have to keep running whether that’s further apart or closer together (situations differ). Until the day we all hope to be able to repay anything we’ve ever been given whether that’s family, friends, or mentors.
