It’s time to get the week off to a flying start! ✈️ I’ve just about recovered from Friday’s spectacular ‘Ray Gelato & The Giants’ gig at the @100clublondon.
What an amazing night! 😀🎶
It was so good to play at one of my favourite venues again. The place was buzzing with appreciative elation and it was a pleasure to join Ray ( @gelatoray ) and the band for his momentous 60th birthday bash! It really took me back to some of our cracking gigs in the nineties! 🥳🎤🎷🥁
Unfortunately, in other news, my “Rushton’s Rescues” search and rescue helicopter sideline has hit a bump in the road. 🚁🙄 There was the slight issue of me causing a traffic jam on Oxford Street when I landed at the 100 Club. 😬
Having received a good ticking off, I’ve decided to transfer my Internet-certified piloting skills to a different aircraft division. If I keep my glasses on, I should avoid mistaking the M25 for a runway. 🤓🤞
I’m so pleased the @rafmuseum has given me a second chance with the loan of this mighty Spitfire! 🙌
Sadly, as a single-seater, there’s no room for my wingman and chief aviation photographer @davepriseman. 🥲 I’m also a little unsure at this stage what I’ll be able to rescue in my little plane. Butterflies? 🦋 Bats? 🦇 Perhaps the odd docile pigeon? 🤔
It’s a shame my rescue career never really took off. 😔 I think I’ll stick to music! 🎶

Sadly, my application for an intensive search and rescue helicopter training scheme was turned down.

With the help of my accomplice @davepriseman , I acquired a slightly iffy pilot’s license off t’interweb and I was able to take this search and rescue helicopter out for a spin from its base at the @rafmuseum in Hendon. 🚁
Admittedly, I’ve had to start small with my rescue missions. I’ve winched a few kittens and chihuahuas so far. 🐱🐶 I’m just awaiting the arrival of my “Rushton’s Rescues” decals so I can get my airborne sideline off to a flying start. 😁
I can just about fit a small drum kit in the back of my new mode of transport. 🥁 So, for my future gigs, look up to the skies as I arrive in style in my banana Budgie! 🚁💛🎶

So, this is what I got up to yesterday! I had a fabulous time celebrating my bestest pal @davepriseman’s birthday.

First, we ventured down the Edgware Road to scoff the biggest breakfast ever at @cafe_anglais. 🍳🥓
With our bellies bursting at the seams, we then went to Hendon for a most enjoyable walk (waddle) around the RAF Museum ( @rafmuseum ). ✈️
You’d think we’d have had our fill of food but, no, it was back to the café for tea and cake! 😋🍰
It was such a lovely day and so great to spend quality time with Dave. Having been in numerous bands together, including with Imelda May ( @imeldaofficial ) and Jeff Beck ( @jeffbeckofficial ), we’ve shared quite a few adventures! 🎺🥁

65 years ago, today, the last RAF Lancaster Bomber was retired from service.
This pic is of the rear gunner’s position at the end of a Lancaster’s tail plane from my visit to the brilliant RAF Museum, in Hendon, last year. Life expectancy, or the likelihood of getting shot down for a ‘Tail-End Charlie’ was thought to be about 2 weeks, or 5 missions in World War Two. I’ve got a family tale that I may regale/bore you all about that in due course.

We mainly went to see the Sea King, as it is one Rob did some rescues in, but enjoyed wandering around looking at all the aircraft they have there.
