It is our collective responsibility to keep moving towards progress, address the challenges that we continue to face as a community, ensure that our voices are heard, and leave a legacy of hope for future generations.” Cherisse Cleofe, PABA Chair.

Congratulations to PABA Board Member, Ernie Ocampo, on his feature in USC News!

The article reads, in part:

Soon after starting at law firm Reed Smith, Ernie Ocampo became known as the quiet guy.
He felt comfortable speaking in front of his peers, and he wasn’t shy. But at work, Ocampo acted the way many Filipino children are taught to behave: respect authority and honor your elders.
Yet in the legal world, Ocampo said, “when there’s an office meeting or you’re in a conference call, you are not just supposed to defer to the elders and stay quiet.” He knew he had to change: He had to speak out more and contribute to conversations, even when no one prompted him to do it.

“How would I have ever made partner if I had stayed quiet?” said Ocampo, who graduated from the USC Price School of Public Policy in 2000. He knows that others like him have faced the same cultural struggles in law, and he aims to help them find their place in the field.

I think of a community that dares to make its presence known and voices heard in spaces where we may be underestimated because of cultural stereotypes. Yesterday concluded PABA’s 3-part mini-series on Fil-Ams in the Biz.

As we go into Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we'd like to share this PSA, in which panelist and moderator, Philip Nulud, worked as the pro bono production attorney. Repost from @nlpamg

I'm so proud to share this PSA that celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. It was directed by @jonmchu (who directed Crazy Rich Asians, and is currently directing the film adaptation of Wicked), and written by @adeleblim (who was also the screenwriter for Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon). It features talent that are personal favorites of mine, like @kenjeong , Randall Park (go Agent Woo!), Kelly Marie Tran, Harry Shum Jr., and @kevin.kreider from Bling Empire 😂. This PSA will be shown in every screen at all AMC Movie Theaters across the nation starting today through the end of May. This PSA is especially meaningful to me because I played a small role (offscreen). I was asked if I could help with this project and serve as its production attorney. I was the sole attorney and worked on every legal aspect of the production. I did that pro bono because Asian American representation in the media is very near and dear to my heart--I think it's absolutely necessary especially in light of all the anti-Asian hate crimes as of late. #pabais #AAPIJoy
