He was very interested in everything aboriginal when we moved to Australia 🇦🇺 this and I encouraged him to embrace it. ⠀

Recently he started listening to Little Yarns on ABC Listen, and will say “mama, I just want to listen to Aboriginal stories.”⠀

Last night he shocked us when we were playing Australian animal flash cards and he started calling the crocodile 🐊 Koedal! My husband and I both looked at each other and said 🤷🏻‍♀️ we thought he made it up, until he explained that he heard it in his aboriginal stories and that’s what they call a crocodile. So I researched it and listened to the episode myself and YES he was right! ⠀

“Koedal in my language of Kala Lagaw Ya means Crocodile. It is one of the major totems of all Koey Buway tribes.”⠀

Now he won’t call it crocodile anymore and we are ok with that 😂 kids are not born racist or ignorant, they are taught it. And it is my job to teach my son to be a good human being with compassion and respect for everyone ❤️ ⠀
