We are familiar with these kinds of displays from calculators, digital watches or from panels at train stations. Here, the elements are permanently changing: sometimes they show numbers, sometimes letters or signs, sometimes indefinable. On the inside, magnets slowly rotate causing the white bars to flip randomly. The title refers to a mathematical theory: The “Theorem of the Endlessly Typing Monkey” states that a monkey which types endlessly and randomly on a typewriter will at some point write down the complete works of William Shakespeare – with the probability being close to zero.

This 448 7-segment display capable of playing animations, text, and mirroring passersby works by flipping each segment under a magnetic current.
Creative coder and designer, Owen, began Motus Art as a personal weekly art challenge meant to find creative solutions to computing problems.
This work is based on @ksawerykomputery idea and code of a ‘FlipDigits Monitor’ project,
His art is heavily based on movement & motion, making use of recursion, patterns and mathematics — revealing the hidden beauty in numbers.

Hello World.
It's alive ! AlfaZeta Flipdigits panel display up and running.
Needs a proper power supply and deffo need to ground the data line so it's not noisy but it's running and taking data with only a bit of latency.
Massive props to a bunch of code from @ksawerykomputery to get this started. Needed a fair bit of tweaking based on my ethernet serial convertor but it's certainly getting the data bytes across from processing.
Next steps are to tidy up and get my own code in and then hook up some extra electronics.
