Tony Washington was the lead singer of the Dynamic Superiors. Brother of Maurice Washington. He was famously openly gay in an era when homosexuality was still taboo. He died in the 80s - some sources claim in the "early 80s", others state the year 1989 (purportedly of AIDS).

Or will the Uranian rebels revolt in an unexpected bolt from the blue, causing walls to crumble at the sound of a fanfare of trumpets? Hopefully a nice win win combo of all of the above as in the story of this vocal group, The Dynamic Superiors, which has a Saturnian Uranian angle in that they were signed by Motown in 1971 at a time when a group fronted by a flamboyantly and openly gay male vocalist was a controversial move … by 1971 Motown was well and truly the establishment, even as it revolutionized mainstream culture in the preceding 7 years by marketing elegant pop music composed, recorded and performed by black artists, building an empire with a lasting legacy which changed the world of music forever. Anyone who knows the story of Motown, however is familiar with how extreme Saturnian principles of discipline, practice and rules came into the waging of that very successful Uranian revolution… by 1971 when the label made the bold move of releasing music accompanied by unapologetic gender bending imagery (See The Dynamic Superiors’ album covers if you’re still with me), they continued pushing the limits of cultural acceptability from a position of establishment.
Even though Uranus is in Taurus, it is by nature an Aquarian planet - if we think of the square in terms of zodiac signs, Aquarius looks to be the stronger team and I’m rooting for realism not getting in the way of crazy ideas which can make the world groovier. Ashford and Simpson penned most of the songs on this superb album - but the thing that truly stands out is Tony Washington’s falsetto(and could give Russell Thompkins a run for his money). May sound a bit dramatic on this hot summer morning, but all I hear is some Crazy uPlifting tune.
