I had half a dozen of these guys in the day, although I have no idea where half of them went. Evidently that includes this guy's axe. He's supposed to come with a golden hatchet known as the Axe of Valour, but I've misplaced that and given him something from my toybox instead. Like the other Dinozaur I showed off earlier this month, Dino Tyranno, this is one visually impressive toy, with the translucent blue and gold chrome making for a toy who really stands out on display. Something I like on these toys are the molded details - the bones and the armour panels have little molded in details to replicate the texture of bones, and to show cracks in their armour, like these are ancient warriors. Which I guess they are? Dino Brachio is the second in command of the Dino Knights, and is also the eldest of the group. I imagine that means he's a bit stuffy and formal, always talking about the knightly honour which he prides himself on. As a toy goes, this one is less fun that Tyranno. The transformation leaves him with both the tail and neck of the Brachiosaur on his back, which makes him very back heavy. Couple that with the fact the legs are very loose, and it is a mission to get this guy to stand up, much less hold a pose. Plus, those upper arms are frightfully tight - rotating them to get proper elbows was scary. He's a toy that looks great - but he's not much fun to play about with because of his flaws.

Dinozaurs was a 26-episode show produced in late 1999 / early 2000 by Bandai and Sunrise, which chronicled the adventures of two warring factions, with the fate of Planet Earth in the balance. The brave Dino Knights took the side of humanity, defending it from the machinations of the evil Dark Dragons and their leader, the monstrous Diamond Ryugu. The Dino Knights concealed themselves on Earth not as cars or jets, or even mechanical dinosaurs. These guys masqueraded as fossils in museums - at least until the call to battle arrived, at which point they'd animate and call upon the "power of the ancients" to assume their robot forms. Or something like that. Truth be told, I've seen maybe two episodes of this show, and it was pretty forgettable. But the toys look cool.
Dino Tyranno is the noble leader of the Dino Knights, and is in the line's equivalent of the old Beast Wars Ultra Class. I guess he's your typical heroic sort, given to making noble speeches about freedom and truth? He wields a blade called the Silver Sword, which he can charge with heroic energy... or something like that. Visually, his toy is pretty impressive. The chromed bones and translucent red make this look like nothing Hasbro was offering at the time, and give him a striking appearance. The robot mode has some nice poseability, too, on par with a similar sized toy from Beast Wars. I found revisiting this guy for this shoot the joints felt quite tight, and that translucent plastic needs to be handled gently. The dino mode has a few gaps in the design, too, which is a little disappointing. Overall, this is a visually cool looking toy, albeit one that won't set the world on fire.
