-It is also known as “The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed”.


-This feast day reminds us of our mortality and that earth in not our final destination.

Things to do:

1. Visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. There is a plenary indulgence that can be applied to the Poor Souls in Purgatory.
2. Pray for your loved ones and those who doesn’t have anyone to pray for them.
3. Remember God’s love and mercy towards us by saying a short praise like: “God, I love you”.

Solemnity of All Saints
November 1

-Day when we rejoice for all the men and women who are now in heaven.

They may have been canonized or not.
-We ask them to pray and intercede for us in heaven.
-This feast reminds us that we are called to holiness. We can imitate the lives of the saints, so one day we can meet God in heaven.

Things to do:

1. Dress up your children as little saints.
2. Pray the Litany of the Saints.
3. Read stories about the saints.

St. Jude Thaddeus and St. Simon
Feast day- October 28
Apostles

-St.

Jude, known as Thaddeus, was the brother of St. James.
-He was the one that asked Jesus at the Last Supper why He would not manifest Himself to the whole world after His resurrection.
-He is sometimes confused with Judas Iscariot.
-He is the patron saint of desperate situations.

-St. Simon was often called “The Zealot”. A zealot is a person who is strongly committed to something. He firmly believed in the importance of following Jewish law.
-After meeting Jesus, he believed that it was important to follow Jesus and His teachings.
-He is the patron saint of tanners.

Both St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus were ordinary men who were chosen by Jesus himself to teach others about God’s love and to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).

I just completed a 19 mile hike into the Grand Canyon and back up in one long day; 13 hours to complete this journey down the south rim Kaibab trail, toes in the Colorado river, lunch at Phantom Ranch, then up Bright Angel trail with the last three miles in the dark with our head lamps guiding the way. Yesterday was our annual joining awards where we welcome our new members and award badges earned over the summer. Then the girls got to participate in fun stations like archery, fishing, and making campfire snacks!

And then, we tent camped! A first for my two youngest and a first for me in maybe…30 years? Longer? I don’t even know. My oldest is a tent camping pro thanks to her years in AHG!

AHG is not just wonderful for my girls, but for the parents too.

Was able to enjoy this beautiful sight again this weekend.

One thing I like about homeschooling is being able explain the importance of our veterans and service as a part of our curriculum.

In our house its an ongoing conversation.

This is a service project and a fundraiser for my daughter's scout troop.All the wreaths that we get sponsored, we get to place on the headstones of veterans at the National Cementary in Phoenix.

Each wreath is $15 and $5 goes directly back to our troop.
